The Allan Handelman Show
For March 19, 2006

One of Allan's guests this week is the great, Ed McMahon. With Johnny's blessing before he died, Ed can finally share all the stories that only he knows. From the sofa at Johnny's right to backstage to their personal relationship – McMahon will provide a real view of the man who was so careful to only show one side of himself to the public. Brilliant in front of the camera, but shy in person, Carson seldom gave interviews. Only McMahon can tell the stories and provide the insights into the personality that made Johnny Carson more of a friend we invited into our home than a television star. Start calling early for this one. Call 1-800-ROCK-TALK.
Ed's new book is called, Here's Johnny! : My Memories of Johnny Carson, The Tonight Show, and 46 Years of Friendship. Ed McMahon is the only person who was with Johnny Carson, even before The Tonight Show, when they both first appeared on Who Do You Trust. Now, with Johnny's blessing before he died, McMahon can finally share all the stories that only he knows. From the sofa at Johnny's right, too backstage, to their personal relationship - McMahon will provide a real view of the man who was so careful to only show one side of himself to the public. Brilliant in front of the camera, but shy in person, Carson seldom gave interviews. Only McMahon can tell the stories and provide the insights into the personality that made Johnny Carson more of a friend we invited into our home than a television star.

Also this week, Alex McNeil author of Total Television, the most comprehensive book ever written about television. "It's considered the bible of TV programming".
It seems like everybody is talking about classic TV these days. Since the beginning of May, there have been dozens of TV specials celebrating vintage television. TV Guide released its Top 50 TV Shows of All Time and guess what, other than Seinfeld (which came in at #1), the rest were classics like The Twilight Zone and The Andy Griffith Show.
So this week The Allan Handelman Show is taking a closer look at the coolest shows from television's golden years. What are your top 10 shows? Which episodes are still etched in your mind? Allan brings back many of your favorite TV stars to share the stories you won't hear on regular TV. Let's face it, you may be getting 500 channels, but the ratings prove you're watching old TV.

Also this week, a follow-up to a show we did a few weeks ago with the drummer of the Kingsman and author of the book, Louie Louie, Me Gotta Go Now. The following week Allan got an email from Jack Ely lead singer of the band. He said in essence, "Dick doesn't know what he is talking about when it comes to Louie Louie, he wasn't even there." So we invited Jack on to clear the air about the Louie Louie controversy. So upsetting was this song to the government, that J. Edgar Hoover personally conducted a major investigation.
